To halls of hell and lower still.

Measured steps, and eyes wide open,

Yet willingly You chose to come.

Love that’s shared will never be lost,

Love offered free is not squandered.

Love offered up is not consumed,

But multiplies many times o’er.

Love given up never departs.

Returns to sweeten lonely hearts.

Love offered up is never charred,

But over and over bears fruit.

Chesed filled heart’s often hurting.

Pain, it bears never complaining.

Gently woos never constraining.

Free to choose ever remaining.

Freedom of choice is open still.

Truth and right can be quite costly,

While pleasures cheap last not too long.

Yet grants each choice mid grief or joy.

Path of Calv’ry asks us to share

Ridicule, shame, and even death.

Now practice love with friend and foe,

Transformed to be chesed like You!

Sweet Chesed, unique and perfect.

You are now, and there’s no other.

But one day soon, blink of an eye,

When trumpet sounds, like You we’ll be!
